General Paul Selva

Paul Selva retired from the United States Air Force as a General in 2019, after a 39-year career.  He held his last post as Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from August 2015 to July 2019.  Prior to assuming his duties as the Vice Chairman, he served as the Commander of United States Transportation Command, with responsibility for the entire Department of Defense transportation system.

 He accumulated 4,000 flying hours as a pilot in transport and refueling aircraft and served as a commander at nearly every operational echelon of the Air Force—squadron, group, wing, and major command—culminating in his tenure as Commander, Air Mobility Command.  His career encompasses a diverse spectrum of assignments, from working as an analyst in the Office of Net Assessment, to serving as the Director of Strategic Plans on the Air Staff, to an assignment as the Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, where he served as the principal liaison between the Joint Staff and the Secretary of State.

He serves as on the Board of Trustees for the Aerospace Corporation and on the Board of Directors for the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessment as well as the board of the Air Force Enlisted Village.

 Paul is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering.  He holds an MS in Management and Human Relations from Abilene Christian University and an MS in Political Science from Auburn University.  An avid backpacker, he has walked the Camino de Santiago in Spain and thru-hiked Appalachian Trail.
